Whatsminer M60S Review (2026): MicroBT’s Case for Costing Less

BY THE BITCOIN ALMANACK TEAM·UPDATED JUL 2026·9 MIN READ·● BTC {{ price }}·CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS
OUR VERDICT BUDGET ALTERNATIVE 8.2/10
MicroBT’s M60S is the credible alternative to the S21 line: 186 TH/s at 18.5 J/TH, a built-in power supply that removes a failure point, slightly quieter at 72 dB, and typically the cheapest full-size machine on the list. The efficiency gap is real — this only pencils out where electricity is genuinely cheap.
WHAT WE LIKED
+Lowest upfront cost of the current-gen machines
+Integrated PSU — one less component to fail
+72 dB, a touch quieter than Bitmain equivalents
+Reputation for robust hash-board build quality
WHAT WE DIDN'T
18.5 J/TH — weakest efficiency of the flagships
Repair turnaround runs weeks vs days for Antminer
Thinner custom-firmware ecosystem

When cheaper wins

$/TH at purchase matters as much as J/TH in operation. At $0.05–0.06/kWh, the M60S’s lower sticker price can reach ROI faster than an S21 despite burning more per hash. At $0.10/kWh the math flips hard against it. Know your rate; it decides this purchase.

Build quality vs support network

MicroBT hardware has a deserved reputation for solid boards and thermal stability, and the integrated PSU genuinely simplifies deployment. The tradeoff is service: most repairs route through Asia, with three-to-four-week turnarounds against Bitmain’s days.

Fleet diversification

Larger operators buy Whatsminer deliberately to avoid single-vendor risk across firmware and supply chains. For a first single machine, that argument matters less than the support gap.
Buy it if…
Your power is under ~$0.06/kWh and minimizing upfront capital is the priority.
Skip it if…
Your rate is mid-to-high or you want fastest-possible repairs — stay with the S21 line.

Common questions

M60S or Antminer S21?

S21: 200 TH/s at 17.5 J/TH, ~$600 more. Better efficiency and support vs lower cost — the M60S wins only on cheap power and tight budgets.

Is the integrated PSU a big deal?

Moderately — external PSUs are a common failure point and cabling mistake. Integration simplifies racking and removes one purchase.

What about the hydro M66S/M63S variants?

Strong machines (298–390 TH/s) for operators with immersion/hydro tanks. Facility hardware, not a first purchase.
