What it actually is

One flagship-grade ASIC chip on an open-source board, pointed at a solo pool. Every ~10 minutes it buys you a lottery ticket whose jackpot is an entire block reward. The odds are astronomically against you — and thousands of people run one anyway, because the ticket costs 15 watts.
