The S21 XP is the most efficient air-cooled bitcoin miner you can buy: 270 TH/s at 13.5 J/TH on ordinary 220V single-phase power. Why efficiency is the whole game
Electricity is a miner’s only recurring cost, so joules per terahash decides who survives rising difficulty. At 13.5 J/TH the S21 XP earns roughly the same bitcoin as twenty old S9s while burning a tenth of the power. In 2026, anything under 16 J/TH is top tier — this is comfortably inside it.
The realistic economics
At ~$0.07/kWh hosting rates the XP clears a real margin; at typical US residential rates (~$0.15/kWh) margins are thin-to-negative depending on hashprice. Run the numbers with a profitability calculator against YOUR power rate before ordering — and model difficulty growth, not today’s snapshot.
Where it should live

Common questions
S21 XP or S21 Pro?
The Pro (234 TH/s, 15 J/TH) is often meaningfully cheaper per unit. For one machine at moderate power rates the Pro can be better value; at scale or with expensive electricity, the XP’s efficiency wins.
Can I run it at home?
Electrically yes (220V dedicated circuit); acoustically only in an isolated space. Many home miners duct it for heat reuse in winter.
What about the S23 generation?
The S23 Hydro (9.5 J/TH) is the new benchmark but requires liquid-cooling infrastructure and supply remains tight. For air-cooled buyers the XP is still the ceiling.
