OUR VERDICT
Buy the Trezor Safe 5 if this is your first hardware wallet or you check your stack from your phone — the experience is friendlier and the security is more than enough for most holdings. Buy the Coldcard Mk4 if you're securing a serious amount, want air-gapped signing, and don't mind reading a manual. Plenty of people we know start on Trezor and add a Coldcard once the stack grows.

Common questions

Can I use both?
Yes — a common setup is Trezor for spending amounts and Coldcard for long-term cold storage, or both as co-signers in a multisig.
Do I lose my bitcoin if the device breaks?
No. Your seed phrase restores everything on a new device — either brand. That's why the backup gear matters as much as the wallet.
Why not Ledger?
Ledger's Nano X is our all-rounder pick in the full rankings — and it gets its own head-to-head: Trezor vs Ledger →
