BlueWallet Review (2026): The Mobile Wallet That Respects You

BY THE BITCOIN ALMANACK TEAM·UPDATED JUL 2026·9 MIN READ·● BTC {{ price }}·CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS
OUR VERDICT BEST MOBILE WALLET 8.9/10
BlueWallet is the rare mobile wallet that serves beginners and veterans alike: clean interface, open source, watch-only support for your hardware wallet, PSBT signing, and multiple wallets in one app. It is the best answer to "what should I put on my phone?" for on-chain bitcoin.

Two jobs, both done well

Job one: a hot wallet for spending money — a clean send/receive experience with sensible fee control. Job two: a watch-only window into your cold storage — see balances and prepare transactions for your Coldcard to sign, keys never touching the phone. Most wallets do one; BlueWallet does both.

The right amount on a phone

Phones get lost, stolen, and phished. The rule we repeat in every review: a mobile hot wallet holds what a physical wallet holds — spending money. The BlueWallet design nudges you toward exactly that separation.

Privacy option

Point it at your own Electrum server and your balance queries stop going through anyone else’s computer — the same upgrade path as the desktop wallets.
Use it if…
You want one mobile app for spending bitcoin and watching your cold storage.
Skip it if…
You mainly want Lightning payments — Phoenix is purpose-built for that.

Common questions

Is BlueWallet custodial?

No — on-chain keys are generated and stored on your device. Back up the seed phrase exactly as you would a hardware wallet seed.

What happened to BlueWallet Lightning?

Its custodial Lightning service wound down; Lightning now works by connecting external nodes/services. For plug-and-play Lightning, use Phoenix.

Can it replace my hardware wallet?

No — it complements it. Keys for serious amounts belong on dedicated hardware; the phone is for spending and watching.
